The Chad e-Visa is managed by the e-Visa sub-directorate of the Direction de l'Immigration et de l'Émigration. A decree effective 11 May 2026 made the platform compulsory for every visa except diplomatic and courtesy visas, abolished manual entry authorisations and set a new tariff grid by joint order no. 033/2026. The portal does not display the amounts: tariffs reported before the reform were around EUR 70 for a 30-day single-entry tourist visa and EUR 100 for a 90-day multiple-entry visa, and should be treated as indicative. Once issued, the e-Visa cannot be modified and is not refunded. The authorities warn that evisa-chad.org is a fraudulent imitation of the official site.

Entry rules at the border

Passport
6 months beyond arrivalValid at least 6 months after your arrival date, according to UK government guidance, with the biodata page scanned in colour for the application.
Blank pages
No official minimum is published; keep at least two blank pages for the entry and exit stamps.
Onward ticket
RequiredA return or onward ticket is part of the application file and should be carried on arrival.
Vaccinations
Yellow fever certificate requiredTo confirm before you flyCarry an international yellow fever certificate even if you fly in from Europe. Chad's e-Visa portal tells every applicant to bring proof of yellow fever vaccination for checking by immigration on arrival, and France Diplomatie lists the vaccine as mandatory. WHO and the UK government list the certificate only for travellers aged 9 months or older arriving from risk countries, but the check at the border follows the Chadian instruction, so travel with it in all cases.
Insurance
RecommendedNot part of the e-Visa file. Medical insurance with evacuation cover is strongly recommended.
Ports of entry
France Diplomatie strongly recommends entering by air at N'Djamena Hassan Djamous International Airport. Several governments advise against travel in large parts of the country and its border areas.

Carry a printed copy of your authorisation

Also good to know

  • Visitors staying more than 72 hours must register with the police at the Commissariat Central in N'Djamena (Avenue Général Kerim Nassour); the immigration officer tells you where to go, and you need a passport photo.
  • Extensions are granted by the Direction de l'Immigration et de l'Émigration in N'Djamena, before the expiry date; 15- and 30-day visas can be extended only once.

Why applications get refused — and what we check

Invitation or accommodation certificate not legalised

When you stay with a private host or travel for business, the portal requires an invitation letter or accommodation certificate bearing a valid notarial legalisation. A circular of 1 June 2026 tells officers to reject unsigned, illegible or unlegalised documents.

What we checkWe check that the host's or organisation's letter carries the legalisation stamp, names the traveller as in the passport and matches the dates of the stay.

Missing proof of occupation or funds

Chad's document checklist asks for both proof of profession and proof of funds or income, which many destinations do not request.

What we checkWe collect an employer certificate, business registration or student card, plus recent bank statements in PDF, before opening the application.

Applying from a third country without a residence card

Travellers who apply while living outside their country of nationality must attach their residence card for that country.

What we checkWe compare the passport's nationality with the home address and, when they differ, add a valid residence card covering the travel dates.

Wrong travel document details at step 1

The application opens with your email entered twice, the travel document number and its expiry date; the link to the full form is sent to that email. An error here carries through to an e-Visa that cannot be modified or refunded.

What we checkWe enter the passport number and expiry exactly as in the machine-readable zone and use a mailbox the traveller monitors, so the form link and the decision are not missed.

What if…

Real situations our agents handle, and what to do.

A website offers the Chad visa cheaper on evisa-chad.org
The Chadian authorities have publicly flagged evisa-chad.org as fraudulent. The only official platform is evisa.td; an authorisation obtained elsewhere will not be recognised at the border.
You hold a visa sticker issued by an embassy
Any visa issued outside evisa.td after 21 May 2026 is invalid and does not allow entry. A visa regularly issued before that date remains valid until it expires; if in doubt, confirm with the Chadian mission that issued it or apply on evisa.td.
You plan to cross from Cameroon by road
France Diplomatie strongly recommends entering Chad by air at N'Djamena. Check your government's travel advice for the border region and declare the port of entry you will actually use in the form.
You are staying with a Chadian family
Ask your host to obtain an accommodation certificate or invitation letter with a notarial legalisation well before you apply. Legalisation takes time on the host's side, and an unlegalised letter is a reason for rejection.
Your stay runs past the e-Visa end date
Go to the Direction de l'Immigration et de l'Émigration in N'Djamena before the expiry date. The e-Visa itself cannot be modified online once issued, and 15- and 30-day visas can be extended only once.

Questions travellers ask

Can I still get a Chad visa from an embassy?
Since 11 May 2026, all ordinary visa applications must be filed on evisa.td, and visas issued outside the platform after 21 May 2026 are invalid; visas regularly issued before that date stay valid until they expire. Only diplomatic and courtesy visas are excluded. France Diplomatie's page still describes the embassy route, which predates the decree.
Is there a visa on arrival in Chad?
No. Manual entry authorisations at the border were abolished with the e-Visa reform, so you must hold the e-Visa before boarding.
How much does the Chad e-Visa cost?
The new tariffs set by joint order no. 033/2026 are not shown on the portal. Previously reported amounts were around EUR 70 for a 30-day single-entry tourist visa and EUR 100 for a 90-day multiple-entry visa; treat them as indicative.
How does the application start?
On evisa.td, the 'Initier la demande' step asks for your email twice, the travel document number and its expiry date. A link is emailed to open the full form, followed by online payment and tracking.
What is the EVT number?
It is the reference of your Chad e-Visa application, in the form EVT followed by a string of digits. Keep it: it is the key for tracking the decision on the portal.
What counts as proof of occupation?
An employer certificate, a business registration or a student card. Chad's portal checklist includes this document for all visa types, alongside recent bank statements as proof of funds.
Do I need a yellow fever certificate for Chad?
Yes, carry it even when flying from Europe. Chad's e-Visa portal instructs every applicant to bring proof of yellow fever vaccination for the immigration check on arrival, and France Diplomatie lists the vaccine as mandatory, although WHO only lists a requirement for travellers aged 9 months or older arriving from risk countries.
Which photo does the portal accept?
A recent colour visa-type photo on a plain light background, uploaded as JPEG or PDF. The former paper form used the 35x45 mm format, which remains a safe choice.
Do I need to register with the police in Chad?
Yes, if you stay more than 72 hours. Registration is done at the Commissariat Central in N'Djamena, on Avenue Général Kerim Nassour; bring a passport photo. Your hotel or host can tell you how it is handled.
Can I change my e-Visa after it is issued?
No. An issued Chad e-Visa cannot be modified and fees are not refunded. If it expires during your stay, the Direction de l'Immigration in N'Djamena is the office to contact.
Are African nationals exempt?
Nineteen nationalities are exempt today, including Benin, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda and Togo. Chad's president announced on 15 July 2026 that all African nationals will be visa-free from 1 January 2027; the detailed rules are still awaited.
